"If that boy had lived, he'd be the greatest!", Louis Armstrong
In 1921, Bix Beiderbecke arrived a Lake Forest Academy and began a journey that would change American Music forever!
Along with Louis Armstrong, Bix ushered in the era of the solo trumpet in Jazz and classical music. He originated the trumpet solo in George Gershwin's "Concerto in F" and was among the first to do call and response lines with vocalists such as Bing Crosby.
Bix attended L.F.A. from 1921 until 1922. He then moved into Chicago permanently to focus on Jazz and performance. In less than 10 years, Bix recorded hundreds of essential performances. He even recorded music used in cartoons of Felix the Cat!
Regrettably, Bix died from Alcohol poisoning in 1931. He was only 28.
